Changing the battery of your junk car

Your family is getting bigger and there is a huge demand for you to purchase a new car. Well, instead of buying a brand new car, why not simply fix your junk car and get the last few miles from your old friend from the road.

The first thing you should check is the battery. Usually batteries are changed when they no longer charge. Refer to your car owner’s manual to get the right amperage battery to use. Be careful in changing batteries since there are different kinds when maintaining your battery.

You can have a maintenance free battery at your hands. If this is the case, then you only need to check if the battery no longer works. Simply inspect a small window at the top and look for an indicator that says if it needs charging or replacement.

Other kinds of batteries may need special attention and maintenance. Check for the water and acid levels. You may need a hydrometer to determine if your battery’s acid level is enough. Check the water level as well. Should you need more water, simply use distilled water only since any other types such as water from the faucet may have negative effects on your battery.

If you always have to check your battery for both the water and acid levels then it may be a good time to just buy a new one. Good quality batteries usually last for five more years while others may last within a shorter period of time.

Be careful though in replacing your car battery. You can hurt yourself if you touch the battery contacts or frame. To avoid any injury through electrocution, always use just a single hand when removing cables and configuring the bolts that are connected to the cable.

Follow these tips and you’ll probably save more money. As long as you are well-equipped, you can fix your junk car yourself and still make the most out of it.

  1. I am agree with you that instead of buying a brand new car, why don't you use your used or junk car for the traveling. You just need to change and replace its battery. And there is nothing to do more.
